The motor of the economy
Tourism and related services make up the economic base of the island. Both sectors account for about 80% of the island´s revenue.
The islanders know how to welcome visitors, who on their return spread the magical image of the island.
Art, Culture and Tourism
Worth particular mention are the network of centres of Art, Culture and Tourism. These centres were originally set up to highlight the island´s treasures. They are public and symbolise the care taken over many years by the islanders to protect their environment. Each centre varies greatly from another, but together they give an overall picture of Lanzarote´s landscape. They unite art with nature focusing on the most valuable aspects of the volcanic action and human activity, highlighting the unique features of the local culture.
